Highway 71 now open
Motorists will encounter a smoother ride on Highway 71 through downtown Browerville as all lanes of the road opened Tuesday, October 13. The road was closed and detoured since June 2014 while crews reconstructed the roadway and city infrastructure. The $4.3 million project reconstructed Highway 71 between Drayer Creek near First Street and Harris Creek near 11th Street, replaced sidewalks and underground utilities, installed new LED lighting, improved a segment of Fifth Street and an alleyway east of Highway 71, and installed an emergency vehicle entering flasher system in downtown Browerville. MnDOT and the city of Browerville worked together to develop a single project that improved city roads and Highway 71, and replaced or repaired city utilities while minimizing any necessary disruption.
